Town Center Plaza 29th Street Redevelopment Area

The Town Center Plaza, located north of Tinker Air Force Base off of South East 29th Street between Air Depot and Midwest Boulevard, has been under redevelopment since 1998. The City of Midwest City acting with and through the Midwest City Hospital Authority, a public trust, partnered with Sooner Investment Company to redevelop this highly visible tract of land. The downtown redevelopment project encompasses approximately 83 acres and originally contained dilapidated residential and commercial structures which were cleared to make room for the new retail based Town Center Plaza.

Town Center Plaza has developed into a retail complex serving the Midwest City region that consists of retail shops anchored by large-scale traditional retailers with restaurants, shops and smaller retail out parcels. The Town Center Plaza provides both a high intensity shopping area along with a town center element.

One element that helps create a feel of downtown plaza is the centrally located park containing a fountain, sidewalks, and open space. The park was recently dedicated as the Charles J. Johnson Central Park in honor of the former City Manager of Midwest City under whose leadership the Town Center Plaza was created. Additionally, in July of 2007, a dedication ceremony for the Centennial Clock was held. The park has already been used for the Concert in the Park series in the Summer/Fall 2007 and more recently hosted the Channel Five On the Road Tour. The park will certainly be utilized in the future for other public events.
