Investigations Division

The Midwest City Police Department has two investigative units, Detective Bureau and Special Investigations Unit, that specialize on specific types of crime.  The initial investigation of most crimes is conducted by a uniformed patrol officer, who then files a police report to document his or her findings. In many cases, the patrol officer is able to complete the investigation, identify the suspects, and make arrests or file charges to close the case. In other cases where there are no arrests or clear leads, or if more in-depth or specialized investigation is required, the case is forwarded to the Investigations Section.

The Investigations Division falls under the Support Services Bureau. The Support Services Bureau is headed by Major Jonathan Goforth, and the Investigations Division is led by Captain Clawson.

The Investigations Division also includes a Crime Laboratory and an Intelligence Analyst.  The Crime Lab employs civilian Technical Investigators.  Officers may be trained as Crime Scene Technicians, who assist the Crime Lab when needed on major crime incidents.   The Intelligence Analyst has a responsibility for producing and disseminating investigative reports. They work closely with investigators to develop profile data and trend analyses.

The Investigations Division is the primary link between the department and the Oklahoma County District Attorney's office, preparing and presenting major cases for prosecution.
