City Council Candidate Filing Period December 4-6

City Council 2023 MWC

Midwest City residents interested in running for City Council seats in Wards 2, 3, 4 or 6, can file between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., December 4-6, 2023. Declarations of candidacy must be filed with the Secretary of the Oklahoma County Election Board at 4201 N. Lincoln Blvd. in Oklahoma City.

Upon filing with the Oklahoma County Election Board, each candidate will need to present their sworn Statement of Candidacy to the Midwest City Clerk's Office. Each candidate will also need to complete a brief questionnaire included in Primary Election Resolution 2023-43, adopted by the City Council of Midwest City on November 14, 2023. The resolution can be found here: midwestcityok.org/city-clerk/page/elections

Midwest City Councilmembers serve four-year terms as representatives of their respective wards. Residents filing for candidacy in Ward 3 would serve for two years if elected, to fill the remainder of an unexpired term from April 2024 to April 2026.

Candidates for each of the elections must be a qualified elector of the City of Midwest City, at least 25 years old, must have been a resident of Midwest City for at least one year preceding the election, and must be a resident of the ward for which they are filing.

If only one candidate files for any of the offices, that candidate is nominated, elected and will take office in April 2024. If multiple candidates file, the candidate receiving a majority of the votes in the primary election on February 13, 2024, will be sworn in and take office in April 2024. If needed, a run-off general election will be held April 2, 2024. Certified results will be posted by the Oklahoma County Election Board.
