Midwest City Tree Board

The Midwest City Tree Board Was created by an act of the city council in 1980. The board is comprised of citizens appointed by the city council, assisted by representatives of the street department.

The tree board meets on the second Tuesday of the month at the Midwest City Public Works Meeting Room (8730 S.E. 15th St) if you have questions about the Midwest City Tree Board or would like to attend a meeting you can call (405) 739-1375.

Why Plant a Tree?

• Trees reduce noise, tall trees combined with understory plantings reduce noise pollution by more than 50%.
• Trees improve stormwater management.
• Trees convert carbon dioxide to oxygen.
• Trees along busy thoroughfares remove particles of toxic materials, leaving air cleaner than streets with no trees.
• Trees shade our parks and enhance our medians.
• Trees turn urban heat islands into cool comfort zones.
• Trees serve as breaks against strong Oklahoma winds.
• Trees improve the quality of life, increase property values and encourage business development.

Adopt-A-Street Program

Program Information
The Adopt-A-Street program was set up to help keep Midwest City Streets clean. An organization will adopt a minimum of one mile for a period of one year, and assist the Midwest City Street Department in keeping that mile of street clean. Several pick up days are set up throughout the year and the adopting group is encouraged to pickup litter on those days. If you are interested in the Adopt-A-Street program please check the list of available streets. If you have further questions on the Adopt-A-Street program please feel free to call (405) 739-1397.

TO: All Adopt-A-Street Program Groups

Happy New Year and many thanks for all the
participation from all of our
Adopt-A-Street groups!

The “2008” scheduled clean-up dates are: April 12th, June 14th and October 18th. Each group should have a representative pick up bags and vests the Friday before the scheduled pick up day, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., at the Public Works Administration office located at 8730 S.E. 15th St.

We would appreciate your cooperation in returning the vests Monday following the pick up. We would also appreciate having a representative from your group contact Richard Polach at 739-1397 with the total number of trash bags collected and the number of participants you had in your group.

We look forward to another successful clean-up year. Thank you for the efforts in keeping the streets of Midwest City litter free.

Nature Trail

The Midwest City Nature Trail was established in 1993 and has currently expanded to over 5 miles. The trail is maintained by the Street Department. if you have any questions or concerns about trail maintenance please call (405) 739-1376.

Why Establish Nature Trails?

Trail systems positively impact individuals and improve communities by providing not only recreation and transportation opportunities, but also by influencing economic and community development. Some trail benefits are
Ø      Making communities better places to live by preserving and creating open spaces.
Ø      Encourage physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
Ø      Creating new opportunities for outdoor recreation and non-motorized transportation.
Ø      Strengthening local economies.
Ø      Protecting the environment.
Ø      Preserving culturally and historically valuable areas.
