Neighborhood Services Division
NEIGHBORHOOD INITIATIVE
The Neighborhood Services Division encompasses Code Enforcement, Neighborhood Initiative and
Property Maintenance. The Department consists of a Staff Secretary, Six Code Officers, Three Neighborhood Initiative Coordinators, and the Neighborhood Services Supervisor.
Purpose :
The purpose of this department is to combine the
efforts of all three sub-divisions to function in a more efficient, productive and organized manner in dealing with
quality of life issues. No single division can solve these complex social problems alone. A combined effort from all of
the divisions of Neighborhood Services will help
them to coordinate for special emphasis projects, target houses and to accomplish special tasks.
The Neighborhood Initiative Division
consists of Three (3) Neighborhood
Initiative coordinators.
Neighborhood Initiative was established to serve as a catalyst in our neighborhoods. The coordinators are to identify the needs of families living in an area and putting them in touch with a particular program which can assist them. They also help form neighborhood associations, watch groups and similar aids. We attempt to provide services which may be unique to a particular area or need. Neighborhood Initiative also provides a ready access or point of contact to City Hall.
Neighborhood associations act as a stabilizing force in a neighborhood by bringing people together to address their needs, problems or issues. Neighborhood associations can also become a partner with our city and help us to build strong relationships with our citizens. This has required strong commitments from our citizens and a shared responsibility for all of our city services.
Through problem solving together we encourage our citizens to "make" their neighborhood "livable". we are building bridges through partnerships, trust and respect that gives hope, strength and an overall healthy and attractive environment for our residents.
No single department can solve these complex social problems alone. A combined effort from all City Services, Police and Fire Departments will help restore the safety of our neighborhoods. This allows us to link our residents with public and private agencies - which in return solves our communities concerns.
Community Action Officers help immensely with our neighborhood goals. Police of course, still respond to emergencies, but many calls that police traditionally respond to are not police related. These calls sometimes are more effectively handled by other departments. Also, with better police - citizen communication, officers use shared information from the residents in solving more crimes. Who is more apt to know where criminal activity is taking place? Our Citizens.
